Celebrity watchers in St. Louis may have heard that supermodel and reality TV star Heidi Klum and her husband, R&B singer Seal, have announced their intentions to get a divorce. In a statement, the couple said that while they love and have "the deepest respect" for each other, the pair has "grown apart" and can no longer stay married.
The couple, who have been married for seven years, have four children ranging in age from 2 to 7. The eldest child is a girl Klum had from a previous relationship. Seal legally adopted the girl in 2009.
Both spouses were financially successful at the time of their marriage, making it likely that they at least considered a prenuptial agreement to determine property division in the event of a divorce. But if they did not sign a prenup, there will almost certainly be a large amount of marital property to divide. Forbes estimates that Klum has earned $108.7 million over the past decade through her TV shows, endorsements and clothing lines.
Seal also has had substantial earning while married to Klum, though not in the same neighborhood as her. He has sold 20 million albums in his career, with a new album that was released Jan. 24. His last album sold 155,000 copies in the U.S., according to industry figures. Forbes estimates his net worth at between $10 million and $15 million.
In the statement, the couple says that their divorce will be "an amicable process" and that their children's well-being will come first.
